Here at Wade, we are often involved with different events for a variety of charities, both local and national. Here is a brief overview of what we, as individuals and a team, got up to before the New Year.
Macmillan Coffee Mornings, September.
The well-known ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ set up by Macmillan Cancer Support was a great success! On Friday 26th September 2014, thousands of people got involved by baking, drinking coffee, eating cake and most importantly, raising money for this great cause!
Along with the official Macmillan Coffee Morning, here at Wade we decided to take it one step further. We held a total of 4 coffee mornings over a period of 2 weeks in September! That’s right, we put our waists on the line to raise as much money as we could! We sold lots of cakes, muffins and biscuits and even managed to sell whole cakes to the more generous (or greedy?)!
The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning raised over 21 million pounds in 2014 and we were thrilled to have been a part of it and to help make a difference!
Wade’s Wear a Wig Day, November.
On the 20th November 2014 we held our very own charity event, Wear a Wig Day! One of our employees, Anthea Bloor, came up with this idea to raise awareness of cancer and the importance of early detection. On this day we all knew what it felt like to wear a wig for a day whilst raising money for a great cause!
Many of us got involved, from those in the office to people on the factory floor. Personally I’d like to give a shout out to the men who really got in the spirit of things and enjoyed themselves (maybe a little too much).
The money raised from our Wear a Wig Day went to the Douglas Macmillan Hospice which “provides all hospice services free of charge to adults with life limiting illnesses in the North Staffordshire area and also provides supportive care for their families and carers”.
PJ and Onesie Day, December.
On the 14th December 2014, the PJ and Onesie Day took place here at Wade and what a sight it was! We had employees rolling out of bed and into work wearing pyjama shorts and t-shirts as well as a snowman, a giraffe, a monkey and even a minion onesie! Despite being December, it is safe to say we were all nice and cosy here at Wade!
We decided to do the PJ and Onesie day in aid of the Caudwell Children’s Trust who “provide family support services, equipment, treatment and therapies for disabled children and their families across the UK.”
What a great turn out and great support for a brilliant cause!
Donna Louise Roundabout
We are pleased to announce that Wade Ceramics Ltd. have purchased a roundabout which is taking pride of place in the playground at the Donna Louise Hospice.
The playground, and the roundabout, has been designed so that all children can play together, regardless of their disability. What a brilliant idea and one that we are extremely proud to be a part of.
Kath Mellor, our year round runner.
If you take part in marathons, you may well have run into our very own Production Operative, Kath Mellor, who has taken part in over 20 competitive runs!
Kath’s next marathon will take place in Manchester in April 2015. She then has the main event, The Potteries Marathon, in July 2015 and then Leicester in October 2015.
Kath takes part in these competitive runs to raise money for different charities including the Donna Louise Trust and the Douglas Macmillan Hospice. We’d like to take this moment to congratulate her on all she has achieved and to wish her the best of luck in her future events!
We look forward to getting involved in many more charitable events this 2015!
