At Wade Ceramics we are proud supporters of Britain’s Armed Forces. For us, this goes way beyond attending this year’s Stoke Military Tattoo (although this is something that we gladly go to see).
We believe that true support by UK businesses can be shown by signing the Armed Forces Covenant. The Armed Forces Covenant is an official promise to support ex-service men and women as they transition into the workplace.
Unfortunately, this covenant is needed in today’s society. SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, recently revealed that mental health stigma is still a deterrent to hiring service leavers in the UK workforce.
Over a third (31%) of recruiters would feel reluctant to hire someone who had previously served in the Armed Forces. And 46% would worry about hiring a service leaver in case they had mental health issues.
At Wade we want to challenge this lack of understanding amongst businesses and to help service men and women move from the military and into civilian life. We want more UK companies to challenge their perceptions about hiring service leavers.
Wade Ceramics is doing this because we believe in it – profoundly. But also – and this is the key point – we also get a lot back in return.
Many of the roles in our factories require engineering experience – a key skill that’s learned by a high proportion of servicemen and women. And that’s just the start. People who have served in the military are also renowned for being team players, problem solvers, quick thinkers, resilient and driven.
By signing up to the Armed Forces Covenant, the Wade management team has pledged to strengthen their commitment to equal opportunities for ex-servicemen and women when they apply for jobs and. To provide benevolence towards army families. And to offer additional paid leave for reservists.
This is why working at Wade Ceramics is the ideal career for those looking to re-enter civilian life after the Armed Forces.
Wade actively encourages ex-service men and women to join us. We champion their engineering skills. We celebrate them, not just as people, but as valiant contributors to the British way of life.
Our company strapline is ‘decorated with history’. But when it comes to supporting these heroes, we are quite simply decorated with pride.
